KANSAS CITY, Mo. – To address the significant employee turnover in Missouri’s cannabis sector, the University of Central Missouri has launched an initiative.
Beginning April 15th, UCM is set to introduce three specialized cannabis certification programs aimed at equipping participants with the necessary skills for a successful career in the cannabis industry. These programs are accessible exclusively online and can be completed within a span of nine weeks. Green Flower, a renowned provider of educational content for institutions nationwide, is supplying the course material.
Max Simon, the CEO of Green Flower, commented, “Entering the cannabis industry can be thrilling, yet without the right knowledge or training, many find themselves unprepared for the realities of operating within it.”
A recent study reveals that over half of the workforce in the cannabis sector exit within their first year of employment. Simon believes that the certificate programs provided by UCM will thoroughly prepare individuals for enduring careers within Missouri’s cannabis industry.
“The complexities and stringent regulations within the cannabis industry are notable,” said Simon. “For those genuinely passionate about cannabis, pursuing formal education could greatly benefit their career trajectory, given the industry’s depth and the extensive knowledge to be acquired.”
Despite exceeding $1.3 billion in sales last year in Missouri, the cannabis industry faces challenges in maintaining a stable workforce, with studies indicating that 55% of employees depart within their first year.
UCM is offering certificates in cannabis cultivation, manufacturing, and retail. For more details or to enroll, click here.
