In a significant drug bust, more than one ton was seized by authorities in Oregon during a traffic stop on Highway 140. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) stopped a white Mercedes Sprinter van on Friday evening for traffic violations near Salt Creek Road. The vehicle, displaying Georgia license plates, was headed eastbound when an Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET) narcotics K9 alerted officers to possible drugs inside.
Upon searching the vehicle, deputies discovered 43 boxes filled with processed marijuana, weighing over 2,200 pounds. Though the driver presented paperwork claiming the shipment was hemp, investigators tested the product and confirmed it contained over 17% THC, making it illegal. Following the discovery, the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing potential criminal charges.
This operation is part of IMET’s ongoing efforts to target the illegal marijuana trade in Oregon’s Rogue Valley. IMET, a task force that includes officers from several agencies like JCSO, Homeland Security Investigations, Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s office, is funded by the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission. While regulatory bodies monitor legal cannabis operations, IMET is dedicated to shutting down black-market marijuana trafficking.
Authorities continue to investigate this case and are following additional leads. With one ton seized in this bust, the team’s efforts aim to curb illegal drug distribution in Oregon. However, no further details are available for release at this time.
