The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office previously announced on January 13, 2025, that the Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2024 Nissan Altima for speeding and failing to maintain lane.
During the traffic stop, the driver was identified as Alonzo J. Lewis of Bennettsville, South Carolina. While speaking with Mr. Lewis, marijuana residue was observed throughout the vehicle .Mr. Lewis was asked to step out of the vehicle so that a probable cause search of the 2024 Nissan Altima could be conducted.
During the search, criminal interdiction detectives located over $30,000 dollars in cash, 520 grams of suspected marijuana, and a black Glock 26 handgun gun.
Mr. Lewis was placed under arrest and transported to the Hoke County Detention Center. At the Detention Center, Mr. Lewis was charged with (F) possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver a controlled substance VI , (F) maintaining a place, dwelling, or vehicle for a controlled substance, and (M) carrying a concealed handgun. Due to Mr. Lewis being out on pre-trial release, he was not given a bond.
