DEWITT, N.Y. — Authorities in DeWitt are actively searching for two suspects involved in a recent burglary at a local cannabis store, with two of the four suspects already apprehended.
Early in the morning on May 30, around 4 a.m., DeWitt police officers responded to an alarm at Loudpack Exotics on Kinne Road. Upon arrival, they discovered significant damage to the front door and several shattered display cases.
Investigations revealed that cash registers and various items from the store had been taken. The shop owner estimated the loss of goods at $3,200 and property damage at $14,000.
Surveillance video at the shop showed four individuals breaking in. The police found that these individuals had used a stolen SUV from Syracuse for their operation. This vehicle was later located abandoned in Syracuse.
On May 31, while conducting a routine check at Kia of East Syracuse, officers observed four individuals exiting a vehicle. Given recent thefts at this location, officers stopped an Uber driver who had just dropped them off. Discrepancies in the statements from the parties involved led to the discovery of items from the earlier burglary, leading to further questioning of the four youths, with parental consent.
Investigative efforts concluded that two of those detained were directly involved in the burglary. Subsequently, on June 4, police arrested a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old male. They face multiple charges:
- Burglary in the third degree
- Criminal mischief in the fourth degree
- Grand larceny in the third degree
- Criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree
Due to legal constraints, the juveniles were not arraigned but were issued appearance tickets for June 5.
The DeWitt Police Department urges anyone with information on the two remaining suspects to contact them at 315-449-3640 or via email at tips@townofdewitt.com.
