In Washington, D.C., Kevon Lockerman, aged 29, received a sentence of seven years imprisonment for committing armed robbery, as declared by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves along with Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
The conviction of Lockerman came on April 5, 2024, for conducting an armed robbery using a knife, determined by a jury at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Post-trial, Judge Erik Christian of the Superior Court prescribed a subsequent five-year supervised release following his prison term.
The incident, as detailed by prosecution evidence, occurred on June 15, 2023. Lockerman and an unidentified associate entered a smoke shop on West Virginia Avenue NE, attempting to illicitly establish a makeshift sales operation. They were equipped with a scale and a knife, offering marijuana for sale. Surveillance footage captured the moment the complainant entered and was unsuccessfully solicited by the duo. As the situation escalated, Lockerman passed a knife to his partner while the complainant conversed with the clerk. As the complainant attempted to leave, both men obstructed his exit, and the accomplice subtly brandished the knife by his waist, prompting the complainant to surrender his cash. The two suspects fled the scene, and Lockerman was apprehended by police near the location three weeks later.
U.S. Attorney Graves and Chief Smith praised the investigative efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department and recognized the contributions of the U.S. Attorney’s Office team, including Paralegal Specialists Abubakar Alawy and Antoinette Sakamsa, Supervisory Paralegal Specialist Renee Prather, Supervisory IT Specialist Leif Hickling, and Investigative Analyst Stephen Jones.
They also lauded Assistant U.S. Attorney Iris McCranie for her investigative efforts and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elizabeth Van Haasteren and Matthew Goldstein for their roles in prosecuting the case.
