Michigan – Detroit’s first cannabis cafe, Wake-N-Bakery, is set to open in Corktown at 1441 Elizabeth Street, bringing a unique experience to the city’s vibrant neighborhood.
The cafe, originally from Chicago, is nearing completion in the former Michigan & Trumbull location, featuring vivid cannabis-themed murals and modern decor. The menu offers a customizable experience where beverages start THC-free, allowing customers to choose their preferred dose, ranging from a light 10-milligram to a potent 100-milligram option. In addition to infused drinks, the bakery will also offer THC-infused pastries and CBD products for dogs. This exciting development was reported by Serena Maria Daniels, editor at Eater Detroit.
Establishments that allow for the consumption of marijuana products on-site have been legal since recreational weed was allowed, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the number of applicants seeking such licenses. These consumption lounges require guests to have their flower, edibles, and other cannabis products delivered from licensed local dispensaries, as direct sales are not permitted on-site.
Wake-N-Bakery, founded in early 2020 by Brianna Banks and Mohamed Lofty, plans to further expand with a new location in Grand Rapids. The Corktown cafe is managed by Detroit-based Adriana Plazas and Nicole Cebalt, ensuring strong local leadership.
What sets Wake-N-Bakery apart is its use of Delta-9 THC, a compound naturally found in hemp plants. According to Michigan Cannabis Information, Delta-9 THC is legal under federal law when present at levels of less than 0.3 percent by dry weight volume. This allows consumers to legally purchase THC products, even in states with stricter cannabis regulations, like Texas.
