A Colorado resident recently found themselves in a surprising situation after receiving an unexpected UPS delivery packed with edible marijuana products. Upon noticing the unusual package, they promptly contacted local police to report the incident.
Local authorities in Lakewood, located approximately 8 miles away from Denver, arrived at a residence on Monday following a fraud complaint reported to them.
The police were informed by the Colorado resident that their UPS account had been compromised, allowing someone else to send multiple large parcels to their home address without their consent. This led authorities to investigate the source of the suspicious shipments. Through tracking information and other investigative leads, they identified a man from Georgia, referred to as “Mr. Scott,” as the main suspect responsible for orchestrating the unusual deliveries. Mr. Scott’s involvement raised questions about potential fraud and misuse of shipping accounts, prompting further scrutiny by law enforcement.
Upon closer examination of one of the returned packages, police discovered a substantial stash—7 pounds of assorted marijuana edibles. These edibles came in a variety of sweet, eye-catching flavors aimed at resembling popular treats, including coconut cake, cotton candy, bubble gum, and a blue cherry-flavored candy similar to Dippin’ Dots. Each edible was packaged in a way that resembled traditional candy, underscoring the potential risk if these products were mistaken for ordinary sweets. The large quantity and varied flavors pointed to an attempt at mass distribution, adding another layer of concern for the authorities involved.
In a humorous nod to the bizarre case, Lakewood Police posted on social media, saying, “Sooooo to Mr. Scott in Georgia, we have your package here at the PD!”
The UPS policy, as stated on their website, allows them to dispose of any shipments containing marijuana, whether the items are hemp-based, CBD-related, or otherwise not allowed for shipping by UPS or by law.
