In Bakersfield, California, early on a Wednesday morning, law enforcement officials from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office took 35 individuals into custody and confiscated several thousand cannabis plants.
The KCSO identified an unauthorized cannabis cultivation operation on February 14, which was allegedly managed by 34 individuals from various Mexican cities and one individual from California. The raid resulted in the discovery of multiple illegal firearms, 500 pounds of processed cannabis, and 2,591 plants.
This illicit activity was based in a spacious warehouse located on the 3400 block of Getty Street.
The sheriff’s office reported that during the operation, at least 14 of the suspects attempted to conceal themselves within the warehouse’s cultivation rooms and did not comply with officers. Meanwhile, the remaining 21 suspects attempted to escape the scene. All involved were apprehended and faced charges related to the operation of a drug sales location, cannabis cultivation, possession of cannabis with intent to sell, illegal possession of assault weapons, resisting arrest, and conspiracy to commit a felony, according to deputies.
Support in the operation was provided by members of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, wardens from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Cannabis Enforcement Program, and agents from Homeland Security Investigations.
