Over a span of just 10 days, the Arkansas State Police’s (ASP) Interstate Criminal Patrol (ICP) successfully confiscated a total of 886 pounds of illegal drugs and a handgun during six separate stops along Interstate 40.
Colonel Mike Hagar of the ASP highlighted the commitment of the ICP team to safeguard the state’s highways. “The team’s recent achievements in curtailing the flow of substantial drug quantities underscore their relentless dedication to public safety and community welfare,” he remarked.
One significant interception occurred on Thursday, April 25, 2024, when at around 7:15 p.m., the ICP halted a car hauler tractor-trailer at mile marker 164 on I-40 eastbound in Lonoke County. Troopers discovered 75 pounds of illegal marijuana in three large duffle bags in the rear of a transported vehicle, with an additional 68 pounds found upon further inspection. The driver was en route from Oklahoma City to Atlanta.
Another stop was made on Monday, April 29, 2024, around 3 p.m., when a white Lincoln Aviator was pulled over at mile marker 175 on I-40 eastbound. This search yielded 120 pounds of marijuana distributed across six duffle bags and a 9mm handgun. The vehicle’s occupants, from Oklahoma City to Memphis, were detained.
Subsequent stops included a Tuesday morning incident where 31 pounds of marijuana were found in a Kia Sportage and a Wednesday seizure of 70 pounds of marijuana from a Toyota Corolla’s trunk, both in Lonoke County.
Further efforts included a late-night stop on Thursday, May 2, 2024, that led to the discovery of 222 pounds of marijuana in a Nissan van and a Friday early morning stop where 300 pounds were found in a Sprinter Van, both on I-40 in Lonoke County.
This string of successful drug busts reflects the effective strategies and vigilant efforts of the ASP’s Interstate Criminal Patrol.
