In recent operations by the Arkansas State Police (ASP), officers intercepted nearly 200 pounds of unauthorized marijuana on various state highways.
Early on the morning of Thursday, February 8, a vehicle was halted by troopers in Little Rock at the exit for 65th Street on I-30 East due to a traffic infraction.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found two garbage bags holding 38 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana, with each package weighing around 1 pound.
Viet Quoc Truong, a 41-year-old resident of Arlington, Texas, was detained and faces charges including felony provision, possession or utilization of forbidden items, felony control of narcotics, felony intention to distribute, and deviation from designated lanes.
A subsequent stop by the ASP occurred two hours later on I-40 in Conway County, where troopers encountered a strong marijuana scent emanating from the vehicle.
Investigation of the vehicle unearthed two hefty bags filled with vacuum-sealed marijuana packets totaling 62 pounds.
Anouphab Thairathom, 44, from Las Vegas, Nevada, was apprehended and faces felony charges for intending to distribute a controlled substance and for possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Friday, February 9, an SUV was stopped on I-40 Eastbound in Conway County for committing a traffic offense. A police K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics, leading to the discovery of 94 1-pound bags of marijuana.
