South Carolina – Deputies with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Criminal Enforcement Unit (CEU) made a major drug bust on October 7, 2024, during a traffic stop on Interstate 95. The vehicle was stopped for speeding near the 160-mile marker. After deputies made contact with the driver, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, leading to a significant discovery—approximately 250 pounds of marijuana.
During the search, deputies uncovered an estimated value of $500K in marijuana, a large amount that law enforcement officials believe was likely destined for distribution. The two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Kevin Li, age 25, and Kang Quan Huang, age 17, both from New York, were arrested at the scene. Both individuals have been charged with trafficking marijuana under South Carolina state law.
Authorities estimate the street value of the seized drugs to be $500,000. This major bust is a significant achievement for the FCSO as they continue to combat drug trafficking along the I-95 corridor, a known route for drug distribution across state lines. The discovery of $500K in marijuana not only disrupts local drug activity but also deals a financial blow to larger networks involved in illegal trafficking.
Kevin Li and Kang Quan Huang are currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center while they await bond hearings. The exact charges for both men fall under S.C. Code Ann. 44-53-370(e)(1)(b), which deals with the trafficking of controlled substances such as marijuana. The Florence County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case, and further details may emerge as the case progresses.
