BROOKLYN – New York City law enforcement officials confiscated 50 pounds of illegal marijuana and various cannabis products at a major unlicensed distributor.
Local complaints prompted a raid on the premises, uncovering an illicit operation valued at over $1 million.
Located on Avenue T, nestled among residential buildings near a nail salon, this establishment sits in a family-oriented neighborhood.
The shop’s displays were notably colorful and mimicked candy packaging, which officials suggest might appeal to minors.
Authorities reported a significant inventory of marijuana and related products at this site.
Additionally, the facility housed a printing press used to produce counterfeit product labels.
It is suspected that this location also supplied other illicit smoke shops across New York City.
The seized materials included a printing press, counterfeit labels, 50 pounds of marijuana edibles, various chemicals mixed with concentrated THC, scales, and vaping products.
The source of the illegal products remains unknown, but police are actively pursuing leads to shut down such operations.
Two suspects have been detained, facing potential charges as the investigation continues.
Over 200 illicit smoke shops have been shut down in total, with raids typically resulting in seizures worth approximately $100,000. The Sheriff’s Office aims to prevent young people from accessing these products. The Office of Cannabis Management is intensifying its enforcement efforts by holding landlords responsible for leasing space to illegal cannabis retailers, gradually limiting retail options for those operating in the recreational cannabis market unlawfully.
