In the early hours of Saturday, May 25, 2024, at approximately 1:55 AM, Massachusetts State Trooper William Rolls was patrolling Route 95 southbound near Canton when he noticed a Chevrolet Spark lacking an inspection sticker. Using an electronic system, Trooper Rolls confirmed the vehicle’s inspection status.
Upon stopping the vehicle, Trooper Rolls engaged the driver, Alexandre Mackens, a 25-year-old resident of Brockton, Massachusetts to verify his driving credentials. A subsequent check revealed that Mackens’ license was suspended. Meanwhile, a noticeable smell of marijuana emanated from inside the car, prompting further investigation.
With assistance from Trooper Andrew Freitas, Rolls observed drug paraphernalia on the car’s floorboard. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of vape pens, THC oil, a significant sum of cash, and over six pounds of marijuana. Mackens was arrested, read his Miranda rights, and subsequently taken to the Foxborough barracks for booking.
Mackens faced arraignment at Stoughton District Court with multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and missing an inspection sticker.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by Massachusetts law enforcement to crack down on illegal drug activities.
