On May 22, 2024, the Yuba County Marijuana Enforcement Team conducted a series of coordinated raids at multiple locations across the county, marking a significant crackdown on illegal cannabis operations. The targeted areas included the 1700 block of Plumas Arboga Road, the 11000 block of Highway 70, the 8200 block of La Porte Road, and Wildwood Trail. These operations led to the seizure of nearly 7,000 cannabis plants and 200 pounds of processed marijuana, underscoring the scale of these illicit activities. Additionally, law enforcement officials confiscated two firearms and over $60,000 in cash, highlighting the criminal elements associated with these operations.
The sole individual apprehended during these raids was 32-year-old Jose Everardo RegaldaMendoza, who was found at the Plumas Arboga location. He was subsequently arrested and faces multiple charges, including possession and cultivation of marijuana and conspiracy to commit a felony. RegaldaMendoza was booked into Yuba County Jail, reflecting the seriousness of the charges against him.
These enforcement actions were part of a grant-funded initiative, ensuring that the operations did not detract from the county’s regular law enforcement duties such as patrol, investigations, and other critical activities. This strategic funding allows for focused efforts on disrupting illegal cannabis operations without compromising other vital police work.
The success of these raids also brought to light several environmental violations, adding another layer of complexity to the illegal cultivation activities. These infractions often involve significant alterations to land and waterways, posing serious environmental risks. The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office continues to emphasize the importance of addressing all aspects of illegal marijuana cultivation, not just the criminal element but also the environmental impacts.
