LAS VEGAS — Tragic events unfolded in Las Vegas as one teenager was fatally shot and another wounded following a dispute over stolen marijuana pens, as per police records shared with 8 News Now.
The incident occurred just after 4 p.m. on April 1, when Las Vegas Metropolitan Police were alerted to a shooting on the 4400 block of Escondido Street.
Police arrived to discover a 14-year-old boy with a critical gunshot wound to the head outside an apartment complex. He was quickly transported to a hospital where it was determined that his injuries were fatal, according to the report.
Inside one of the apartments, officers found another teen suffering from a gunshot wound to his left arm. He was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Investigations revealed that a light blue Ford Mustang was involved, registered to the suspect’s father who confirmed his son, Lucas Murphy, was the sole user of the car.
Lucas Murphy was promptly arrested on the day of the shooting by Las Vegas Metro police.
A third teenager revealed that he had hosted the two victims the previous night. On the day of the incident, they had arranged to buy marijuana pens for $70. However, two of them planned to abscond with the items without paying.
After meeting with Murphy, who handed over the pens while displaying a payment app, the teens seized the pens and fled. During their escape, they heard two gunshots, as per their account to the police.
Upon returning to their residence, they tended to the injured teen’s arm wound, soon realizing that the third member of their group was missing.
The whereabouts of the stolen marijuana pens remained unknown, the teens told the police.
Detective surveillance later captured Murphy at his home, leading to his arrest. Initially cooperative, Murphy later requested the presence of his mother or an attorney.
Murphy now faces serious legal challenges including charges of open murder, two counts of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial harm, and discharging a firearm into an occupied structure.
After posting bail, Murphy was placed under high-level electronic monitoring and is scheduled for a court appearance on July 24.
