In a tragic incident in the D.C. area, a local rapper was shot and killed to gun violence on Wednesday while he was employed at a cannabis store in Washington, D.C., even though he did not resist the robbers’ demands, as stated by authorities.
Authorities from D.C. police reported that 41-year-old Philip Prendergast, hailing from Silver Spring, Maryland, was hit by bullets while on duty at a location on the 5100 block of Georgia Avenue in the Northwest, when two individuals barged into the dispensary waving handguns at approximately 3 p.m.
The incident was pinpointed by NBC Washington at Hotbox, located in proximity to Hamilton Street.
The report detailed how one of the assailants discharged their firearm, seized “valuables and cash,” and then made an escape.
Prendergast, known in the music world as Phil Da Phuture, suffered gunshot wounds during the heist. He succumbed to his injuries later at a medical facility.
Surveillance footage in the vicinity captured images of the perpetrators.

21-year-old Trenton Collins was arrested and charged Monday with first-degree murder while armed. In a news release, D.C. police stated that on March 27, Collins and another suspect entered the HOTBOX Uptown cannabis dispensary in Northwest D.C., where they demanded money from both customers and employees. During the robbery, despite Prendergast’s cooperation, the rapper was shot by Collins. The suspects then stole cash and property before fleeing the scene, according to the police.
